Muenster is located in western Cooke County at 33°39′03″N 97°22′32″W.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.5 square miles (6.6 km2), of which 2.3 acres (9,506 m2), or 0.14%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,556 people, 588 households, and 401 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,209.3 people per square mile (465.7/km2). There were 628 housing units at an average density of 488.1 per square mile (188.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.62% White, 0.13% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.71% from other races, and 1.03% from two or more races. 2.19% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 588 households out of which 35.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.1% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% were non-families. 28.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
